Today
Today is your home screen. It answers one question first thing in the morning: what needs me today, and what does waiting cost? The money at the top shows what is at stake, one kind at a time.
The list below ranks problems by what one more day of waiting costs. The first row is the one to deal with first.
Where to find it: Today is the first item in the top menu. It is also the page you land on after you sign in.
When should I open this page?
Section titled “When should I open this page?”Every morning, before anything else. It takes about two minutes. Narada builds the list overnight, so it shows the stock picture from the last run. Stock that moved during the day shows up tomorrow.
What am I looking at?
Section titled “What am I looking at?”The money band
Section titled “The money band”
The money band shows each kind of money at risk, with its period, across the top of Today.
The band has one cell for each kind of money at risk. Each cell shows its period under the amount. These are different kinds of money, so Narada does not add them into one total.
- Trapped in stock: stock that will not sell on its own, at cost, today. Each part is counted once.
- Costs and lost margin, per year: what repeat problems cost you each year.
- Costs and lost margin, last 90 days: the same kind of loss over the last 90 days.
- Margin at risk from stockouts: the profit you could lose until stock can land.
A kind with nothing in it today is left off, so you may see only some of them. On the right is Banked so far, the savings recorded after you acted on a finding. There is no single total and no up or down arrow.
Today’s line and the decisions line
Section titled “Today’s line and the decisions line”Under the band, one line says what waiting on today’s list costs each day. Another line counts the supplier decisions waiting on the Orders desk. It shows decisions, missing numbers, orders ready to sign and late orders to check. Press Open Orders to go there (Orders comes with the Planner plan).
The can’t-miss list
Section titled “The can’t-miss list”This is the numbered list. Each row shows:
- what is wrong and how many parts it covers;
- the branch;
- the suggested next step;
- how overdue it is, if it has a deadline;
- the cost of each day of waiting.
Press Review on a row to open the finding.
The worth-doing list
Section titled “The worth-doing list”Below the numbered list is a list with no numbers. It holds problems that have money at stake but no daily clock, such as overdue purchase orders. A last line adds up the rest. Rows without cost data still show, marked “not yet priced”.
The overnight card and banners
Section titled “The overnight card and banners”When there is news, a card appears above the Narada bar. Press Review to open the page the news is about. Press Dismiss for today to hide the card until tomorrow, on this browser.
A banner appears when the list is old, when nothing cleared the confidence bar, or when you are done for today.
How do I work through today’s list?
Section titled “How do I work through today’s list?”- Read the money band. Check each kind and its period. They are not added together.
- Read the line that says what waiting on today’s list costs. That is the price of doing nothing today.
- Work the numbered list from the top. Press Review on each row.
- In the finding, you can draft a purchase order, claim the problem, or dismiss it with a reason. See A finding.
- Press Open Orders for supplier decisions: late orders, missing numbers and orders to sign. See Orders.
- Glance at the worth-doing list once a day. Overdue orders with a lot at stake usually need a call to the supplier.
What if the list looks old?
Section titled “What if the list looks old?”Check the banner. If it says the overnight run has not refreshed the list, the list is old too. Email support@naradaos.com.
Is your last sales or stock file more than 8 days old? Then Today warns you: “Your last sales or stock file arrived N days ago, so today’s numbers are as of then. Check that your ERP export is still running.” If you send files weekly, you are not warned.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Why is there no single total? The kinds of money are measured over different periods. Stock you hold today and a loss over a year cannot honestly be added. Narada shows each one with its period instead.
Why does a row say it is overdue by some days? The reorder-by date for that problem has passed. The reorder-by date is the day you should order to avoid running out. The cost per day has been running since then.
What is the difference between Today and Brief? Today ranks by what one more day of waiting costs. Brief shows what changed since the last run and what is behind each amount.
What this page does not do
Section titled “What this page does not do”- It does not act for you. You act from the finding, and anything that writes asks you to confirm.
- It is not live during the day. It shows the last overnight run.
- It does not hide problems that have no price yet. They still show, marked “not yet priced”.
